special nutritional requirements for sport


By far the greatest difference between sportspeople and those who do not engage in sport is the quantity of food that has to be consumed (carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals and fluids). In everyone's case, nutrition should be the cornerstone of health maintenance.
According to the Swiss Forum For Sports Nutrition, adults are designated as sportspeople if they train for one hour or longer each day, or at least on most days of the week, on a performance-oriented basis.
Their diet, like that of moderate sports participants or non-sportspeople, should be based on the Food Pyramid, which provides an easily implemented guideline on choosing food. The additional quantities of nutrients needed by sportspeople are summarized in the extended Food Pyramid for sportspeople:
